Motocross Graphics Finishes Explained: Chrome, Holographic, Matte & More

Your graphics design is only part of what makes a custom motocross graphics kit stand out.

The print base and laminate finish can completely change how the exact same design looks once it is installed on the bike.

At The Design Lab, you can choose from multiple print bases and laminate finishes to create anything from a clean factory-style look to a full holographic setup that changes color in the light.

Here is how each option works.

What Is a Motocross Graphics Print Base?

The print base is the material your graphics are printed onto.

Most motocross graphics use a standard white base, but you can also choose reflective materials like Silver Chrome and Holographic Chrome.

The print base sits underneath the artwork and changes the way the colors look.

White Base

White Base is the standard choice for motocross graphics and gives you the most accurate, consistent colors.

It is ideal for factory-inspired graphics, bright colorways, OEM-style builds, and riders who want the artwork itself to be the main focus.

We use Ultracurve X1 print media, which is designed specifically for motocross and powersports applications.

If you are not sure which option to choose, White Base is the safest and most versatile choice.

Silver Chrome Motocross Graphics

Silver Chrome gives your graphics a reflective metallic appearance.

Instead of printing onto white material, the artwork is printed over a silver chrome base. This allows the reflective material underneath to show through the printed colors.

Lighter colors usually show more of the chrome effect, while darker colors reduce it.

Silver Chrome works especially well with light blue, red, orange, pink, neon colors, silver, gray, and other high-contrast designs.

It is a great option if you want a premium custom look without going all the way to holographic.

Holographic Chrome Motocross Graphics

Holographic Chrome is the most aggressive finish we offer.

The material shifts through different colors depending on the lighting and viewing angle, creating a rainbow-style reflective effect across the graphics.

This finish stands out especially well in sunlight and when the bike is moving.

Holographic Chrome works great with black graphics, minimal designs, bright accent colors, futuristic layouts, electric bikes, and show-style builds.

If your goal is to make your bike impossible to miss, Holographic Chrome is hard to beat.

Print Base vs. Laminate

The print base and laminate are two different parts of the graphics.

Think of the construction like this:

Print Base → Printed Artwork → Laminate

The print base affects the way the colors look underneath.

The laminate sits on top of the artwork and changes the final surface finish while also helping protect the graphics.

This means you can combine different bases and laminates to create completely different looks.

White Base + Gloss
Traditional factory motocross look.

White Base + Matte
Clean, flat, stealthy finish.

White Base + Metallic Sparkle
Standard colors with additional sparkle.

Silver Chrome + Gloss
Bright metallic and highly reflective.

Silver Chrome + Matte
Metallic colors with a softer surface finish.

Holographic Chrome + Gloss
Maximum reflection and color shift.

Gloss Motocross Graphics

Gloss is the classic motocross graphics finish.

It gives the graphics a smooth, shiny surface and works with almost every design style.

Gloss looks especially good on bright colors and factory-inspired graphics.

If you want the traditional race-bike look, Gloss is usually the best choice.

Matte Motocross Graphics

Matte gives your graphics a flatter, satin-style finish.

It completely changes the appearance of darker designs and works especially well with black, gray, and muted colors.

Matte is a great choice for black graphics, dark colorways, minimal designs, stealth builds, and clean modern layouts.

The same design can look dramatically different in Matte compared to Gloss.

Metallic Sparkle Motocross Graphics

Metallic Sparkle adds silver-colored sparkle into the clear laminate.

It gives your graphics an additional effect without changing the print base underneath.

This is a great option if you want something more custom than standard Gloss but do not want to move into chrome or holographic materials.

Metallic Sparkle works especially well with bright colors, white, pink, purple, blue, black, and retro-inspired graphics.

What Is the Best Motocross Graphics Finish?

The best finish depends on the look you want.

For a factory-style bike, go with White Base + Gloss.

For a stealth build, try White Base + Matte.

For something subtle but different, choose White Base + Metallic Sparkle.

For a metallic look, go with Silver Chrome.

For maximum attention, choose Holographic Chrome.
